Andrew Baur

Snow Mesa Studio

Andrew is the founding owner of Snow Mesa Studio, located in Asheville, North Carolina. As a New Hampshire native, Andrew has had an intense draw to nature and adventure since an early age. From Charlotte, North Carolina where he began his study of Architecture at UNCC, to the CU - Denver, where he earned a Master of Architecture - this call to adventure has given him the opportunity to call many places home.

Though Andrew's formal architecture education has played an impactful role in his drive to create Snow Mesa, his true passion for the business comes from his hands-on design and construction experience. From an early age, Andrew was exposed to a variety of mediums including woodworking, joinery, and steel-craft which has given him unique insights on the profession of architecture.

He has continued this love for design through multiple award-winning design/build workshops across the US. When he is not working on Snow Mesa’s next big project, you can find Andrew tinkering in his workshop, backpacking, or at a local brewery with his wife, Sarah and their pup Moose.

ON THE FOUNDING OF SNOW MESA

"I started this company for the same reason I have started every other big venture in my life: a drive to explore, discover, and contribute. In 2017, I hiked the arduous 500 miles of the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango. In the third week of the trip, I came down from a mountain pass to a low-lying plateau surrounded by mountains.

I backpacked across the top of this barren mesa for many miles and was completely captivated by the sheer scale of this distinct landform in an otherwise alpine landscape. To name my business after this region is a promise I make to myself to stay fascinated and engaged in my work. It is a constant reminder to create impactful designs that are rooted in the same inspiration that I found during this unique experience."

Through these experiences, it is easy to understand why Andrew believes that an on-site presence during the construction process is crucial for a well-executed design. When he is not working on Snow Mesa’s next big project, you can find Andrew tinkering in his workshop, backpacking, or enjoying a cold pint at a local brewery with his wife, Sarah and their sweet pup Moose.
